In an extreme act of violence U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens was killed by 20 militants that stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last night. It is said that there were 20 Americans in the embassy at the time of the attack, protected only by Libyan forces. Since the attacks all Americans working for the state department have been evacuated from Benghazi.
In a statement to the public President Obama said that “I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.”. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.”
